• Rickets –

It is caused by the deficiency of Vitamin D along with calcium and potassium. Rickets is a condition where the bones are weak and soft, bowed legs and other bodily deformities exist.


• Beri Beri –

Vitamin B1 or thiamine deficiency leads to the disease called beri beri. Its common symptoms are nerve degeneration, altered muscle coordination and cardiovascular problems.


• Scurvy –

Lack of Vitamin C or ascorbic acid in the body causes scurvy. This disease inhibits the collagen production in the body which is the structural protein that connects the tissues. It causes abnormal formation of teeth and bones, decaying of the skin and gums, delayed or inability to heal wounds.

• Night blindness –

This is a condition caused due to poor growth, dryness and keratinisation of epithelial tissue or chronic eye infections. It is caused by the deficiency of Vitamin A. In worsened conditions, night blindness can lead to complete loss of vision.


• Goitre –

Deficiency of iodine in the body causes goitre. Goitre leads to enlarged thyroid glands causing hypothyroidism, poor growth and development of infants and even mental retardation.
